How To Patch a Hole in Drywall

1. First, use a pencil and a square to mark the area of the drywall that needs to be patched. before you cut, make sure to check the wall for any electrical wiring or pipes.

2. Use a drywall saw to cut the outlined square on the wall.

3. Place the cut piece on a new piece of sheetrock for measuring. Score the backside of the new piece with a utility knife, then cut the front side.

4. Smooth the wall texture on the wall before inserting the new patch. Put the new patch on the wall using four drywall repair clips to hold it in place.

5. Gently press the new piece of drywall in place and secure by screwing drywall patch to repair clips with drywall screws.

6. Use fiberglass tape to cover all joints. Cover the entire patch with drywall mud and smooth it out to blend with the wall.

7. Wet-sand the patch. you may need to use a spray texture to blend the patch with the existing wall.

How to Paint over Wallpaper

1. First, cut away any slivers of paper that have pulled away from the wall using a utility knife. Use 200-grit sandpaper on rough areas of the wallpaper.

2. If there are cracks or rough spots, moisten the area with a damp towel and place spackle over the area.

3. After the spackle dries, sand it down.

4. Spray primer on any areas that are stained before you start painting.

5. Place painter’s tape on the baseboards and ceiling and cover the floor with a plastic sheet.

6. Next, paint a coat of primer on the walls, or two coats if necessary & wait for it to dry.
(you may need to spackle & sand the walls again if stained or cracker areas are still visible)

7. Finally, PAINT!

Updating your outdated walls can really add value to your property & helps it show better to potential buyers.

How to Install Crown Molding

1. First, cut your first angle of the crown molding with a miter saw and highlight the profile of the molding with a pencil. Use a coping saw to cut away the back.

2. Use a utility knife to trim the cut & file with a wood rasp to make it smooth.

3. Make 45-degree cuts with the miter saw on a few molding strips and place them in a corner. This will allow you to make any necessary changes to the angle of your saw to make sure the pieces of the molding fit snug into the corner against each other.

4. Drill pilot holes before nailing the molding on the wall & attach the molding with finished nails. Use a nail set to sink the nail heads and disguise them. Cover the nail heads with wood putty.

5. Cover any gaps that appear in the molding with paintable caulk.

How To Repair a Deck

1. First, remove all the rotten boards from the deck that you are replacing.

2. If you have any rotten support beams that also need to be replaced, cut them using a reciprocating saw. Make sure to always wear safety glasses when operating power tools!

3. Remove the rotten beams from underneath the deck & measure to cut new ones the same length. Use the same size lumber for the new support beams and fit into place.

4. Drive wooden sticks into the ground next to the new support beams, and attach them to the beams by drilling pilot holes. Then, drive in galvanized deck screws to tighten the beam to the stake.

5. Measure the new deck boards using the old deck boards as measuring devices and cut the new pieces from the same size lumber with a circular saw.

6. Put the new pieces into place with galvanized deck screws; make sure to pre-drill pilot holes to avoid splitting the wood. You may have to cut angles in the new pieces to fit against existing boards if necessary.
