Update Your Bathtub!

How To Replace a Bathtub Spout

1. First, remove the screw that holds the existing spout in place. Place a screwdriver handle in the spout for leverage & turn the spout counterclockwise. Remove the spout.

2. Place the new spout on the spout nipple in a clockwise direction. When the spout is flush against the wall, place the screw in it.

3. Put caulk along the gap between the wall and the spout. Wipe away any excess caulk with a damp towel.

That’s it!!

A little upgrade like this can make all the difference in your bathroom’s appearance.

DIY Weekend Project

HOW TO: REFINISH BASEBOARD MOLDING

1. First, clean the existing molding with a damp towel. If there are trouble spots in the molding, brush over with 120-grit sandpaper. Hold the sandpaper so that it matches the shape of the molding.

2. Use a carbide-tipped scraper for rough areas and pull the scraper away from you to shave away the imperfections. You may also use other tools, like a five-in-one painter’s tool until the surface of the molding is completely smooth.

3. Clean the remnants, like dust and debris, with a vacuum.

4. Fill any gaps with latex acrylic caulk and smooth with your finger. You can dampen your finger to smooth out the caulk line.

5. Paint over the area.

& that’s it!

Summertime = Project Time!

Over the next couple of months we will be posting tips for homeowners for things that probably need done around the house.

How To Replace Shingles

1. First, remove the old shingles with a pry bar by inserting the bar underneath each shingle until you break the seal.

2. Remove all old shingle nails by inserting the prybar underneath each nail & gently tapping the bar with a hammer until the nail pops out.  *Be careful not to damage the roofing felt underneath the shingles!*

3. After you have removed all of the old shingles, you can start placing the new shingles on the roof. Simply nail the shingles to the roof; a three-tab row of shingles should take approximately eight nails.

4. Place a small amount of roofing sealant over each nail head in an effort to keep water out.
Good as new!
